A game for two that can also be played with pencil and paper. Circles, the potatoes, are stacked into a triangular heap: one potato in the top row and one more in each row below. You choose the number of rows before the game: 6, 8, 10 or 12. The rows of potatoes run from left to right and diagonally.
Players take turns and colour one empty potato on each move. Whoever colours the last empty potato of a row scores a point for each potato in that row. If a move finishes several rows at once, the player scores for all of them. The game ends when every potato is coloured, and whoever has more points wins.
A corner potato makes up a whole row on its own, so it scores a point straight away. Avoid colouring the second-to-last empty potato of a row if you can, because then your opponent finishes the row and the points go to them. Towards the end there are more and more rows with only two empty potatoes left, and it pays to count which of you will be the first forced to give a row away.
